Upton-by-Chester Village Hall

Bar and Licence Arrangements

Premises Licence

Our Premises Licence permits the use of the premises for a range of licensable activities, covering the performance of music, dance, plays, similar entertainment and the showing of films, between 9am and 11pm, Monday to Saturday, and 9am to 10.30pm on Sunday.  Further details are displayed on the management notice board in the Main Hall.

In addition, our licence permits the sale of alcohol between 12noon and 11pm, Monday to Saturday, and 12noon to 10.30pm on Sunday.  However, the licence requires that the hall management committee are collectively responsible for alcohol sales, and so the bar can only be used for the sale of alcohol with the involvement of one or more trustees.

The Bar

  • Access through the bar is normally left open, but when in use the bar front and top can be closed and an extension to the stainless steel work surface inserted to provide a full width bar.
  • There is a pull down, lockable shutter in front of the bar, but as the bar area cannot be completely secured (there is open access from the kitchen) then this is rarely used.
  • At the back of the bar is a bank of lockers for user groups to store such items as tea and coffee.
  • A selection of glasses is stored above and below the bar for groups to use free of charge.  Each slot in the rack above the bar holds a maximum of 3 glasses, any more then there is a high chance of one falling out.
  • A small sink with hot and cold water is in the corner of the work surface.
  • Bottles and cans can be chilled in the refrigerator in the kichen behind.  A small freezer is provided in the bar for ice.
